second gradeRhythmic concepts: We learned a new longer rhythm shown by two tas connected by a special music line called a tie. Practicing ta, ti-ti and quarter rest.
Melodic concepts: We learned a new low note called do. Practicing mi, so and la. We learned about "echo songs" like "Oh My, No More Pie" and "Charlie Over the Ocean." We started adding "accents" into the music to show the strong beats. We have played some of our favorite games including "Icha Backa," "Down Came Johnny," and "Bluebird." We have played rhythm sticks and drums. FOURTH gradeRhythmic concepts: Practicing ta, ti-ti, quarter rest and half note. We are preparing to learn a new rhythm that includes FOUR sounds on one beat!

We practiced identifying accents, bar lines, measures, the double bar line, the do clef, and the time signature. We have played some of our favorite games including "Riding in a Buggy," "Hot Cross Buns," and "Chicken on the Fencepost." We have practiced on many rhythm instruments. |
THIRD gradeRhythmic concepts: Practicing taa (half note), ta, ti-ti, and quarter rest. We are preparing for a new rhythm that includes FOUR sounds on one beat!

We practiced identifying accents, bar lines, measures, the double bar line, the do clef, and the time signature. We have played some of our favorite games including "Closet Key" and "Hot Cross Buns." We have practiced on many rhythm instruments. fifth gradeRhythmic concepts: Practicing ta, ti-ti, quarter rest, half note and tika-tika. We are preparing to learn two new rhythms that include THREE uneven sounds on one beat!
Melodic concepts: Practicing the extended do pentatonic scale. We sang a new song "Coffee" as a canon. We practiced identifying accents, bar lines, measures, the double bar line, the do clef, and the time signature. We have played some of our favorite games including "Dinah," "Our Old Sow," and "Tarzan." We have practiced on many rhythm instruments. |

MUSIC LITERACY WORKSHEETS
Students in grades 2-5 were asked to complete a set of directions for a folk song to demonstrate understanding of melodic concepts and important musical symbols. I've included samples of each worksheet below. The children had fun learning and adding color to their music!
